FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Royal Ottawa – Here Comes Everybody EP

We are very excited by our next release, an EP by Royal Ottawa  named “Here Comes Everybody”. Royal Ottawa – (a band from Ottawa if you hadn’t already guessed) is quite dear to my heart and includes some musicians I’ve been following since the 1980’s. Most of them were in a band called Bugs Harvey Oswald, a band that my brother and I saw live many times. They even supported many of the influential bands that made it to Ottawa like The Ramones, The Fall, Stray Cats, Mission of Burma and many others, always putting on a brilliant show. Sadly they only ever released one 7” single “Bye Bye” in 1982, that is well worth searching out. And then they vanished.

Fast forward to 1996 and most of the members regrouped, adopting the name Royal Ottawa and released a mini album named “Heaven” which had some excellent songs on it and a promising future seemed on the horizon. Then again. Sadly, they seemed to vanish. Skip forward again to 2015 and a wonderful album was finally released: “The World We Know” getting significant radio play at local radio stations as well as some interviews which helped me fill in some of the details about their past and find out about other musical side projects they had been involved with.

Jump a few more years forward to 2023 and Royal Ottawa released a magnificent double album “Carcosa” which we absolutely fell in love with and thanks to a radio interview with DJ tic on CKCU, I was finally able to reconnect with the band and express my desire to help share their music. We were able to include one of their songs on the compilation “Lost In The Imaginary World Of Beauty” (Beauty 053), that we released in 2024. We also agreed it would be very cool to work together on a future release.

Well finally this is happening and the new EP “Here Comes Everybody” will be released in association with the beautiful music as Beauty 066. It’s already available on Bandcamp at the link above.

Some Notable Words About Royal Ottawa’s Music:

“Here Comes Everybody” is the steady, forward-chugging kind, one that doesn’t flag for a second and achieves meditative bliss in a way that’s not unlike how it feels to take in Carcosa as a whole. Royal Ottawa are clearly locked into something–their sound is aged, but as exciting as any new band..   Rosy Overdrive

Carcosa is moody and meandering in the best way possible. “Ontario Baby”  hums as well as anything The Church ever did and “AK-49” covers a lot of ground while trampling over everything in its path (as does the equally great “Soul On Ice”). I have no idea where this band have been or where they’re going but Carcosa is the gleaming jewel hiding in the basement that needs to break out and be seen/heard. I can think of at least 100 friends who would love this instantly and if I have my way they will. Dig this and dig it now..    Tim Hinely, Daggerzine

We are very pleased to release “Here Comes Everybody” and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

“Royal Ottawa – Here Comes Everybody EP” (Beauty 066)  is available on Bandcamp now on 12” vinyl and in digital formats from their Bandcamp page and possibly a few select distributers in the future. https://royalottawa.bandcamp.com/album/here-comes-everybody
